August 26, 2014 -- Julia will be performing a spoken word piece at R/EVOLVE 2014, 3rd ANNUAL OAKLAND PRIDE Creative Arts & Film Fest. This particular event is called REVOLVE 2014 ARTIVISTS and other performers include Lea Arellano, Omar, Dana Morrigan, Laurel Lee, Hazardous Waste - Dazie Rustin Grego, Kayla Dones, Arielle McKee, Yvonne Fly Onakeme Etaghere, Sonya Renee Taylor, Caleb Zachary Matthews, Liz Demi Green, Lisa Evans, Blythe Baldwin, Carolyn Wysinger, Kayla Moon, & Pr3ss Play Poets. Show takes place at IMAGINE AFFAIRS ART LOUNGE - 408 14th Avenue - Oakland CA. It begins at 6:30pm with an hour long film (called KUMU HINA) followed by performers. June 28, 2013 -- Julia will be giving a keynote speech at Seattle Trans* Pride! The festivities begin at 5pm at in Front of Seattle Central Community College at E. Howell & Broadway St. There will be a march, followed by a number of speakers (including Julia) and performers (including Rae Spoon and Ian Harvie). June 27, 2013 -- Julia is co-curating, and will be performing in the fifth annual Girl Talk. Other performers include her co-curators Gina de Vries and Elena Rose, as well as Dominika Bednarska, DavEnd, Dr. Carol Queen, Jos Truitt, and Tara Hardy! The show will be at the African American Art & Culture Complex (AAACC), 762 Fulton Street @ Webster at 7:30pm, $12 - $20 sliding scale online; $15 - $20 at the door. March 24, 2011 -- Julia will be hosting the third annual Girl Talk: A Trans & Cis Woman Dialogue show! Girl Talk is a spoken word show curated by myself, Gina de Vries and Elena Rose, and intended to foster dialogue about the myriad relationships and overlapping issues that exist between queer cisgender (i.e., nontransgender) and transgender women. In past years, the show has taken place in June as part of the National Queer Arts Festival, but this year the Queer Cultural Center (who organizes the festival) suggested that we have the show in March as part of Women’s History Month! This year’s performers are TBA, but the cast will include Gina de Vries, Tobi Hill-Meyer, Marlene Hoeber, Sadie Lune, Elena Rose, and Rachel Rubin. The show will be held at the S.F. March 10, 2011 -- Julia will be a featured speaker at the Lewis and Clark Gender Studies Symposium in Portland, OR. July 12, 2009 -- Julia’s band Bitesize will be playing at The Festival of Drums on Sunday, July 12th @ the Stork Club (2330 Telegraph Ave, Oakland). Other bands include Static Mind-Fi, The New Dysfunctions, Siddhartha, The Happy Clams, Bunny Numpkins and the Kill Blow-Up Reaction, Harlan Hollander, and David & Joanna, DJ Mole, DJ Tidbit, and Kelsey on Accordion. Every band will be adding extra percussion to their sets, plus there is a BBQ, and Bunny Numpkins & the Kill Blow-Up Reaction's are having their CD release. All for a mere 7 bucks! May 18, 2009 -- Julia will be speaking at a protest of the Annual Meeting of the American Psychiatric Association. This event is focused on reforming and/or removing language in the forthcoming DSM that stigmatizes and delegitimizes trans people. It will take place from 6:00 pm to 7:30 in front of the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA.

May 9, 2009 -- Julia will be reading from her essay “Why Nice Guys Finish Last.” as part of a book reading for the anthology Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Sexual Power and A World Without Rape, edited by Jaclyn Friedman and Jessica Valenti. The reading will be held at 7:30PM at Pegasus Books in Downtown Berkeley.

February 6, 2009 -- Julia will present a paper entitled “Autogynephilia and the Psychological Sexualization of MTF Transgenderism” at the 23rd Annual Conference of the International Foundation for Gender Education (IFGE). The paper will be part of a panel called “Disordered” No More: Challenging Transphobia in Psychology, Academia and Society that also features Joelle Ruby Ryan and Kelley Winters.
